It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of John Alexander Patty on August 9, 2024, after a short but fearsome battle with cancer. He died at home surrounded by his family. He was born in Norfolk, Va. on November 1, 1967, to James W. Patty and Nancy McRoberts Barnes. He was preceded in death by his father, and his step-father, Theodore Baker Jr.  Alex was a beloved husband, son, brother, uncle, and Pops.  He is survived by his mother, his wife, Mary Ann Patty, and his children, Bobbi (Erik) Olson, and Josh (Jessica Estrada) Covell, ex-daughter-in-law Star Covell, and 8 beautiful grandchildren. He is also survived by his three sisters and brother, Nan Harbour, Mike Patty, Julie Patty, and Anna (Jeff) Jolley. He was the favorite uncle to many nieces and nephews, all of whom adored him. To know Alex was to love him. He never met a stranger and would give the shirt off his back to anyone who needed it. He always spoke fondly of his childhood in Eugene, Oregon. He was an avid gardener, lover of sunrises, a collector of recipes, and an enthusiastic supporter of the Oregon Ducks and the Washington Commanders. A celebration of life will be held on September 8, 2024 at Lake Wright Hotel on Northampton Blvd in Norfolk, Va.
