John's obituary
John (Murph) Patrick Meyer, age 89, of Estero, Florida passed away on Monday June 2nd, 2025 at Gulf Coast Medical Center. He died peacefully in his sleep and went home to be with Jesus.
He was born in North College Hill (Cincinnati) to the late Richard and Dorothy (Dieterle) Meyer. He was only 14 years old when his mother passed away. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his older sister Meralyn Roessner who helped raise him, his son John and wife Sue (Stickley).
He is survived by his best friend and partner Elsie Eisenhut. They both had been widowed and started a new life together that lasted many years. He is also survived by his daughter Kim (Mike) Murray, his son Todd (Meredith) Meyer and his son Dan (Christiane) Meyer; grandchildren Kristina (Aaron) Murray, Kevin (Kristin) Murray, Jen (Chris) La Rue - Murray; and Johnnie, Andrew, Henry and Charlie Meyer; great-grandchildren Declan and Charlotte Murray and Iris Sassoon.
Murph was a veteran who served his country in the army during the Korean conflict. He worked many jobs over his lifetime but enjoyed his last one the most as the groundskeeper for Colerain High School sitting on his John Deere tractor cutting grass outdoors. He was a self-taught handyman. Nothing made him happier than when he and Sue retired and moved full time to their mobile at Mariner’s Cove in Estero, Florida where they enjoyed an active social life with many friends and visits from family.
Murph was an active man. He lived a happy life of faith, family and friends. He was able to keep so much of life simple and in perspective. He ended each day praying the rosary as he fell asleep. He is now in eternal peace and will be missed by many.
Please join us in a Celebration of Life for Murph on Sunday July 13th at 4:00 pm at the Church of the Advent located at 2366 Kemper Lane in Cincinnati Ohio. Please come with your stories to share about Murph. We will share dinner together afterwards in the community kitchen.
