I am so sorry to hear of John's death.   I worked with John at O'Melveny & Myers for 7 years, and he was a great mentor to me, and a fellow University of Texas law graduate.  Working with John made me a better attorney, writer, and human being.  Though I was a junior associate when we met, he repeatedly went out of his way to be kind and make me feel important - paying for me to upgrade to first class on a business trip, taking me on a sailing trip to Anacapa island, and taking me to New Orleans for a Fifth Circuit oral argument.  He was a leader without ever being overbearing, was able to effectively mix praise with necessary corrections, and is still someone I try to emulate in mentoring my own children.  I deeply appreciate his role in my life, and extend my deepest condolences to his family as you grieve his loss.
