John's obituary
John Michael Neve passed away peacefully on July 8, 2024, surrounded by his loving wife of 53 years and their seven children. Born on October 7, 1950, to Pete and LaRue Neve of Salt Lake City, John was the fourth of six children. As a child, he enjoyed playing sports, especially baseball, with his three brothers. On July 16, 1971, he married his sweetheart and was later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. Together, they raised seven children. John worked as a grocer at various stores, including Warshaws, Smith Food, Macey’s, and Farmer’s Market. In 1983, he opened the Market Basket store in St. George, Utah, where he loved interacting with the people. John was hardworking, strong, loving, and a dedicated family man who held firm to his faith as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Throughout his life, he served in various callings, including his time as a bishopric member in a singles ward.
John leaves behind a wonderful legacy within his family. His wife, Jeannie, was his greatest asset. He cherished annual camping trips with his family and quiet evenings watching movies. John had a soft spot for old western shows, particularly those featuring John Wayne. Despite health challenges toward the end of his life, he found joy in listening to his grandchildren’s laughter as they played in the backyard pool.
Survived by his wife, Jeannie Neve, and their seven children—Johnny Neve, Kandace (Kris) Horning, Mary Jane (Mike) Stringham, Natalie (Lacie) Lloyd, Nicholas Neve, Brittney (Matt) Jacox, and Angela (Mike) Jacox—along with 23 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, John also leaves behind his brother, Bill (Janet) Neve. He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Roger Neve, Donna Hills, Janet Neve, and Brian Neve.
The family expresses heartfelt gratitude for the love, prayers, and support they’ve received over the years. In accordance with John’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral; instead, the family will hold a private Celebration of Life.
