John Patrick “Pat” Nagle III, resident of Gig Harbor, a beloved Tacoma entrepreneur, died unexpectedly on February 23rd, just three days after his 60th birthday. Pat is survived by his devoted parents, Myrna and Jack, trusted confidant and brother Mike (Sarah), and his sisters Laure (Jim), Shannon (Kevin), and Colleen (Jason). He had many nieces and nephews whom he adored and treated as his own.

Loyal, giving, passionate about life and love and friendships; Pat never met a person he didn’t want to connect with. He climbed mountains, threw footballs, baseballs, and rugby balls. Pat skied, rode, and paddled his way through the Pacific Northwest… a loyal dog always by his side.

Pat was born in 1963. He graduated from Foss High School and went on to study Business & Marketing (and rugby) at Washington State University. In 1997 he founded The Harmon Pub and Brewery and became an enthusiastic supporter of Tacoma’s downtown revitalization. Heartfelt and impassioned, Pat was Tacoma’s biggest fan.

Pat was committed to actively and selflessly serving his local community. He participated in groups such as The American Heart Association, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Puget Sound, and Point Defiance Zoobilee. He provided meals for free on Thanksgiving for those in need at the downtown Harmon. An active member of the Downtown Tacoma Rotary Club and just a plain ol good guy, he enthusiastically supported local businesses.

An avid reader and history buff, Pat was able to quote Mary Oliver poetry, lines from his favorite book The Good Rain, and recount baseball and football stats on the fly.

Friends were family.  His Aunt Judy and Uncle Tom were second parents, and his cousins Rick, Joe, and Bitsy were like siblings. He also enjoyed exploring the Pacific NW with his many friends.  Pat was married to Tina for 6 years and they shared an appreciation for the NW.

Pat will be remembered by his emotional zest for life and passion for loving deeply. His memory can be found in a bluebird day on the mountain, an early morning water ski or paddle on Wollochet Bay, music and a cold beer on the dock, a big tight bear hug, and a “be cool” fist bump.

Pat suffered a heart attack the same day his beloved dog Walter died. His family is heartbroken and will miss his immense presence.

There will be a Celebration of Life for Pat on Sunday, March 19th, from 2:00-5:00 PM. This event will be held at Fircrest Golf Club in Tacoma Washington.
