John Mathew Moffett
(1984—2023)
John Mathew “Matt” Moffett passed away unexpectedly on April 14, 2023 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was only 38 years old, and his family is deeply saddened by his sudden death. Matt was born on October 14, 1984. He was a loving son, brother and friend.
Matt is survived by his father John Moffett and companion Brenda Pitts; his mother Tina Trafton and step-father Clay Trafton; his siblings, Elizabeth (Trafton) Rayman and her husband Max Rayman and their daughter, Charlie, Ryan Trafton and his daughter, Roeyn, and Rebecca "Jacob" Trafton; his grandmother Kathy Moffett; his Uncle Ken "Bud" Moffett and his wife Mary; his great-uncle and great-aunt Haskell and Edith Martin and their children Kim Unterreiner and family and Christy Irwin and family.
Matt will also be loved and remembered by his aunts and uncles and their families Sharon Schlarman, Cary Trafton, Michelle Walck, Jock Trafton, Danielle Keppler, Lisette Sztukowski, Shane Trafton, Wyatt Trafton, Gabrielle Hudson, Mimi Segbers, Therese Zaloudek, Roxane Schermann, Gigi Kaiser, Deirdre Evers, and Chad Trafton. He will be greatly missed by his dearest friends Randy and Susanne Nichols and their children Logan, Arianna and Samuel.
Born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, Matt attended St. Joan of Arc Grade School and Cleveland Military Academy high school. After graduation, Matt enlisted in the United States Air Force and served his country honorably for eight years. He then continued to work as a contractor for the U.S. government at home and abroad; his skills and intelligence granted him access to experiences and locations he never dreamed. He was most recently employed with the Oklahoma Department of Corrections.
Matt was known for being fun, adventurous and living life to the fullest. Whether rooting for his favorite team, the St. Louis Cardinals, or playing his favorite poker game, Texas Hold ‘em, Matt was “all in” and always up for a good time. He was also passionate about his family and friends—nothing mattered more to him. Everyone who knew and loved Matt described him as fiercely loyal; he was a faithful son, brother, nephew and friend until the very end.
To honor Matt’s memory, we are holding a celebration of life gathering on Saturday, April 22, 2023, from 12 to 4 p.m. at Pietro's restaurant located at 3801 Watson Road, St. Louis, MO 63109. We invite all those who knew and loved Matt to attend and remember his short life.
