John's obituary

John McVeigh, a respected oral surgeon, avid chess player, and skilled pianist, passed away on September 3, 2022. Born on February 10, 1926, in Washington, D.C., John lived a long, fulfilling life devoted to his profession, his hobbies, and his loved ones.

In his professional life, John was known and respected for his dedication to his patients and his exceptional surgical skills. As an oral surgeon, he changed countless lives, helping people to regain their confidence and live without pain. His compassion and expertise earned him a loyal following of patients and colleagues alike.

Outside of his successful career, John was deeply passionate about his hobbies: chess and piano. An accomplished chess player, John spent many hours honing his strategies and engaging in online competitions with opponents throughout the world.  His mastery of the game earned him recognition as a superiorly ranked player well into his 90's.

John's talent on the piano was equally impressive. He took pleasure in playing for his neighbors and filling the halls of Harbor Place with the beautiful melodies of classical and popular music alike. His warm and quick-to-laugh personality made him a popular figure at social gatherings and family events, where he would often provide the evening's entertainment with his effortless performances on the piano.

Those who knew John will fondly remember him as a warm, quick-to-laugh gentleman who brought joy to the lives of everyone he encountered. His legacy of kindness, skill, and passion for his hobbies will live on in the many hearts he touched throughout his long, fruitful life. John McVeigh will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
