John's obituary

John Lee Mather

November 20, 1933 – October 26, 2025

John Lee Mather, age 91, formerly of Pea Ridge, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2025. He was born on November 20, 1933, in Mountainburg, Arkansas, to Oval Lee Mather and Florence Johnston Mather. John lived a long, meaningful life devoted to his family, the Lord, hard work, and service to his country.

He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1953 to 1958, achieving the rank of Corporal and honorably serving during the Korean War. His strength, discipline, and loyalty as a Marine guided him throughout his life.

After his military service, John built a respected career as a truck driver, earning a remarkable award for one million accident-free miles — a true testament to his dedication, skill, and work ethic.

John is survived by his children Glenna Mather Shaw, Darla Gilfillan, Robert Mather, and Kimberly Wilkes, along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were a great source of pride and joy in his life.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 30 years, Linda Mather; his parents Oval Lee Mather and Florence Johnston Mather; his son Terry John Mather; and all of his siblings: Wanda Lucile, Carl Amos, Wilma Roberta, Betty Jo, Paul Dale, Mary Lou, and Alice Faye.

A service honoring John’s life and military service will be held at Veterans Memorial in Grand Prairie, Texas, on Wednesday, November 20, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. — a date chosen to celebrate what would have been his 92nd birthday.

John will be remembered for his quiet strength, steadfast love for his family and the Lord, and the lasting example he set through his courage, devotion, and humble spirit.

“Well done, good and faithful servant… enter into the joy of your Lord.” — Matthew 25:23
