John's obituary
John L. Maillet
February 14, 1954 – November 12, 2024
Gardner – John Leo Maillet, 70, passed away following a brief illness on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, in Worcester, MA, leaving behind his three beloved children and four grandchildren.
Born on February 14, 1954, in Somerville, MA, John was the son of the late Leo and Vitaline (Thibault) Maillet.
John was raised in Somerville, MA, the second oldest of five brothers, and a city boy at heart. He spent his summers in the Canadian countryside of Nova Scotia with his grandparents where some of his fondest childhood memories were made. As a teenager, John found his love of motorcycles. He enjoyed long cruises into the White Mountains of New Hampshire and along the Kancamagus Highway. The Fall foliage in New England was one of his favorite sights and something he always looked forward to.
John’s greatest adoration was for his children, Heather, Matthew, and Shaun, whom he shared with his ex-wife, Andrea Maillet. Equal devotion and pride was reserved for his grandsons, Logan, Tyler, Malachi, and Lincoln, who were lucky to have lived with their “Pape” as toddlers and young men. Their loving bond is something they will forever be thankful for and will keep with them always. John’s home was covered in ever-changing family photos that enveloped his walls from floor to ceiling. He admired seeing his family light up every time a new photo was added to Pape’s wall. And there was always candy in a dish for his grandchildren – always.
John worked as a Warehouse Distribution Manager for 3Com in Marlborough, MA for most of his career, but retirement was where he found real joy. John loved music, especially Frank Sinatra, photography, woodworking, and gardening. He also enjoyed good food and cooking for his family.
John is survived by his brothers, Phillip Maillet and his wife Jennifer, of Seattle, WA, James Maillet of Medford, MA, and Francis Maillet of Methuen, MA; his daughter Heather Maillet and her partner, Jordan, of Bethel, ME, his son Matthew Maillet and his wife, Lucy, of York, ME, his son Shaun Maillet and his partner, Catherine, of Gardner, MA; four grandsons whom he cherished deeply, Logan Johnson, Tyler Johnson, Malachi Maillet, and Lincoln Maillet; as well as many nieces and nephews.
John was predeceased by his brother, Alfred Maillet and his wife, Leslie; and by his parents, Leo and Vitaline Maillet.
A celebration of John’s life will be held on Sunday, November 24, 2024, from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at The 1761 Old Mill, 69 State Road East (Route 2A), Westminster, MA.
