John Edward Lingerfelt, age 89, of Morganton, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born on November 8, 1935, John was the devoted husband of Leslie Lingerfelt for 40 years and a proud father to his two sons, Brad and George. He was also a cherished grandfather to his nine grandchildren, who brought him immense joy and pride throughout his life.

A lifelong resident of Morganton, John began his career with the railroad at the age of 20. He worked diligently and with great passion, steadily rising through the ranks to achieve a respected position. His commitment and work ethic served as an inspiration to his colleagues and family alike.

Beyond his career, John’s greatest love was his family. He was a loving and supportive father, always present for his sons and grandchildren, and he cherished every moment spent with them. He was also an avid outdoorsman who loved hiking, camping, and exploring the natural beauty around him. Whether in the mountains, forests, or by a quiet lake, John found peace and happiness in the great outdoors, often sharing these experiences with his family.

John is survived by his loving wife, sons, and grandchildren, as well as many friends and family members who will continue to carry his memory in their hearts. May he rest in peace.
