John's obituary
John Paul Klatt, beloved father, husband, son, uncle, and friend left us all too soon after a valiant battle with prostate cancer which ended on February 3, 2024.
John was born March 5, 1958, in Bloomington, Illinois. He grew up in Chillicothe, Illinois where he enjoyed playing local sports and eating his Grandma Jane’s delicious baked goods, especially her world-famous Ginger Cookies. He attended the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana and graduated in 1980 with a Bachelor of Science in Ceramic Engineering. He worked various process engineering jobs in Missouri and Ohio before deciding to return to the University of Illinois “Go Illini ! ” and get his Master’s in Ceramic Engineering. There he met Maureen, his wife. Upon graduation in 1987 they married and moved to Northern California where John worked for various Silicon Valley high-tech Companies including Lockheed Martin, Candescent Technologies, Sun Microsystems and Oracle. During his career he used his materials science knowledge to improve space shuttle tiles, flat panel displays, and large scale computer systems. More important to him than his work was the long lasting relationships he forged with colleagues and schoolmates who became lifelong friends. Johns’ passion for excellence and his confident, nurturing nature are remembered fondly. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing guitar and tennis, gardening, skiing, stock investing, walking our labrador retrievers, and being the best house and car fix-It guy around.
John was a loving husband, father, and dog-gramps unconditionally dedicated to his family. He is survived by his wife Maureen Klatt, and their three wonderful children Paige, Jacob, and Mason; his Mother Mary(TC) Klatt, his brother Bruce Klatt, his brother Frank and sister-in-law Karen Klatt, his sister Jane and her husband Tim Shryock and nine nieces and nephews and a great niece and a great nephew; his mother in-law Helen Janeczek and his sister in-law Denise Janeczek. He was preceded in death by his father Richard Klatt his father in-law Edward Janeczek and his niece Rachel Klatt.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
