John's obituary
John was the son of Madeleine and Thomas Kelly and lived most of his life in or near Belmar, NJ. He passed away peacefully in his sleep after fighting cancer for a year.
John was loved by family and friends for his faith in God, his sense of humor, his absolute devotion to his grandson and granddaughter, and his love and service of his country. He was always there to offer a helping hand and made friends wherever he went.
He worked the last 18 years of his life for the family business. Customers often thought of him more as a friend than as their landscaper and enjoyed talking about anything with him.
John was an avid fisherman and loved taking his nephews and grandson fishing and teaching them what he knew. He loved football, particularly the Dallas Cowboys, and watching sitcoms or scary movies.
John served as a paratrooper in the US Army's 82nd Airborne Division and was honorably discharged after his service. He was an usher at St. Rose Roman Catholic Church in Belmar, where he actively practiced his faith. He held an unwavering faith in God, which he shared with those who surrounded him.
John joins his mother, Madeleine Kelly, his father, Thomas J. Kelly, and his brother, Thomas A. Kelly in Heaven. He is survived by his brothers Christopher and Rocco Kelly, his sister Maggie Holby, his brother-in-law, Steven Holby, his sisters-in-law, Ann Kelly and Linda Kelly, his nieces, Elizabeth Holby, Morgan McNally, Samantha and Christine Kelly, his nephews, Andrew and Nicholas Holby, Michael, Thomas, and Nicholas Kelly, his girlfriend, Sandra Sevierd, his son, Sean, and his daughter, Angela and his grandchildren. John was loved by many and will be missed by all those that knew him.
