Justin's obituary
Dr. John Justin Davis
Obituary: March 31, 1971 - March 17, 2025
It is with immense sorrow that we announce the passing of John Justin Davis, MD., 53, of Paso Robles, CA. Justin died of a massive heart attack in the morning of March 17, while on vacation with his family in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
Justin was born to Dr. John and Carolyn Davis on March 31, 1971 in San Francisco, CA. He graduated from Paso Robles High School in 1989 where he lettered in football, track and wrestling. He was one of the very few Bearcat wrestlers to medal in the California State Wrestling Meet where he placed fourth.
He attended Stanford University where, in addition to his studies, he competed on the rugby and ski teams and was an enthusiastic member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. After graduation from Stanford in 1997 he continued his education in Portland, OR, receiving a masters degree from Portland State College and his medical degree from Oregon Health Sciences University. During his residency at UC Irvine, he met the love of his life, Lisa Lu, DMD.
As a high school graduate, Justin couldn’t wait to leave Paso; but after completing his education he couldn’t wait to come back. He proudly practiced medicine with Dr. Scott Greaves, a friend and mentor, until his death.
Justin was bigger than life. His booming greetings to his patients could be heard throughout his office and a few neighboring offices. He always made himself available to patients, friends and family with kind understanding and utter compassion. The thousands of lives he touched in such a positive way are a testament to his loving caring nature.
Justin involved himself in the community as a member of the Rotary as well as serving on the boards of several local medical organizations. For may years he worked with local high school and middle school teachers to give regular talks and advise to young scholars interested in health sciences. He also donated time giving sport physicals to young athletes who could not afford a doctor visit.
Justin adored the western lifestyle. Being raised on a small ranch he rode horses at an early age, was a member of 4H and was accustomed to the chores and hard work this entailed. He was a very active member of the Paso Robles Trail Ride, serving as president in 2017. He relished the camaraderie and shenanigans on the ride and eventually became a member of the “Ride of Rides”, Ranchero Vistadores.
A one-of-a-kind personality, Justin will be remembered by all who knew him for his abundant joy of life. He had an all-encompassing love of people and especially for his family and friends. He loved cooking, riding, skiing, boating on Naci and his home.
His wit was legendary and his huge laugh was contagious.
Justin is survived by his beautiful family: his wife Dr. Lisa Lu Davis, children Skye 18, Sloane 15 and Jack 10, mother Carolyn Davis, father Dr. John Davis (Sally), sister Summer Barnes (Pat), as well as loving nieces and nephew. He was preceded in death by his brother Dr. Scott Davis (Nicolle.)
