John's obituary
John Francis Xavier Jaworski went to heaven on his 63rd birthday, August 14, 2023. (He told his sister, Nancy, he would be going there soon on August 10.)
He was born in San Antonio, TX on August 14, 1960. Shortly after his birth, his family moved to Springfield, VA where John spent the younger years of his life. He contracted phlebitis at the age of 9, marking the beginning of a series of physical ailments that would continue throughout his life. John took up magic as a young man, entertaining on Steel Pier in Atlantic City with his brother, Joe. He worked as a roadie for lounge bands, becoming an accomplished light and sound technician. In 1992 he met Amy Binks whom he married in 2001. They lived in New Haven, CT and had a confetti company, and visited Key West often. While in CT he volunteered with Paul Newman’s Hole in the Wall Gang camp that served children with cancer and other serious illnesses. John lived life on his own terms and in 2014 decided to become a Key West resident, hanging out with the locals and doing lights and sound in the local theater. His health worsened and in 2018 he moved to Mesa, AZ near his sister, Nancy. While in Mesa John volunteered with Alice Cooper’s Solid Rock teen centers. He suffered a stroke in 2020 and had a triple bypass the following year, most recently finishing three weeks of radiation treatment for cancer.
John loved all people and animals; and they loved him. His mission was to spread peace, love and happiness to all. And that is what he did. He was kind-hearted and cheerful to the end, despite immense pain and suffering. Once you met John, you would never forget him. He was known by some as the “Key West Dude” and his niece, Alexis, described him as “Santa with Tattoos.”
John is survived by his wife Amy Binks Jaworski, his sister, Nancy Cooke (husband, Steve Shope), his brother Joe Jaworski (wife Lori), his brother Jim Jaworski (wife Laura Lee), his cousin, Peggy Munroe (husband Glenn Bachus), his “bonus Mom,” Linda Jaworski, nieces, Alexis Shope, Michaela Shope, Jackie Leather, and Virginia Jaworski, nephew Jamie Jaworski, and grand-nieces Elisa and Spencer Howe, and by scores of friends who miss him deeply. The family will celebrate John’s life later this year in his beloved Key West. For those who wish, donations in John’s name may go to the Coral Restoration Foundation.
