John's obituary
John William Humbles (Bill to those that knew him in his younger years) was born in New Castle, Indiana on June 23, 1938 to Orville and Elizabeth Humbles. The middle child and only boy with two older sisters, Doris and Ruth, and two younger sisters, Beth and Maryvee.
John (Bill) has 5 children from previous marriages. Marv, Rebecca, Chip, James and John. On May 25, 1976 he married Dixie and inherited 3 grown or almost grown children. Bruce, Linda and Ryan. The big surprise one year later came in the form of the birth of his final child, a son named Troy.
John had a brilliant mind and an incredible work ethic. John was always chasing the next big job. Whatever would help him support his family. He lived in many states, even running a small motel (Blue Mountain Lodge) in John Day, Oregon with Dixie. It was one of his favorite places and he spoke of it fondly. He finally settled in Elko, Nevada when it was time to retire. When he wasn’t fixing something, he was creating something beautiful and useful with his hands. Hands that were always loving and gentle with his family, whom he loved with all his heart. John had a quick wit that delighted the young and old with his “papa-isms”, making us laugh every day. He was quiet, reserved, and truly humble.
John was an active member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses for many years. It was apparent that he was chosen for a special assignment by God. His love for Jehovah and his faith in the Bible propelled him through his later years.
John will be truly missed by all who knew him. He touched many lives in his 87 years. John passed away October 22, 2025, with his loving wife, Dixie, by his side.
John was not big on pomp and circumstance. There will be no big funeral and procession. There will be a Zoom service November 1, 2025 at 2:00 pm for all those that wish to attend. Please contact Amy Humbles via email address othrshp@gmail.com to receive a link to the service. Please include your name and relationship to John. Links will be sent on October 31, 2025. There will also be an open house for those in the Elko, NV area that wish to pay their condolences to Dixie on November 1, 2025 from 3:30 pm-5:00 pm at Bruce and Meri Rader’s home, 402 Spring Creek Parkway in Spring Creek, NV.
John was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Beth and Ruth, and his stepson Ryan. He is survived by his wife, Dixie and his children Marv (Marilyn) Humbles, Rebecca Weibe, Chip (Shaun) Humbles, James, John, Bruce (Meri) Rader, Linda (Scott) McDonald, and Troy (Amy) Humbles. His sisters Doris and Maryvee. Along with grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews too numerous to mention.
