Steve's obituary

John Stephen Hondros, better known to us all as “Steve” or “Stevie”, was born on May 12, 1960 in Atlanta, Georgia. He was the first born child of Stylianos & Scarlet Hondros. Steve was the oldest of what would eventually be 6 siblings in all. After graduating from Chamblee High School, Steve attended Clayton State University for 2 years until he accepted a job at WAGA Fox 5 Atlanta.

Steve had a rewarding 32-year career as a post-production editor where he won multiple Emmy awards for his work. Before he retired in 2015, he moved from Atlanta to Barnesville, Georgia where he began to build his ultimate dream - an eco-friendly home, a large beautiful garden, and a refuge for his animals. Steve loved all animals, especially his cats and dogs. He would never hesitate to feed or take in stray animals.

This speaks to the kind of man Steve was - a kind, genuine, loving, empathetic and gentle person. He made friends easily through his kind and caring demeanor. He was a great listener and was always ready and willing to help someone in need. He often performed quiet acts of kindness to those around him. For example, Steve would help the nearby homeless man by hiring him to work on his car.

Steve was a loving son, a dedicated brother, a doting uncle, and a loyal friend. His work colleagues described him as effortlessly creative, a collaborator, an innovator, and a problem solver. One colleague expressed that everything he touched was made infinitely better. After retiring, he continued his passion for TV and film as a background actor in the Atlanta film industry. He worked on many TV shows and movies as a stand-in and background actor. He even had a few lines in one production. On August 12, 2021, he passed away peacefully in his home after a 10-month battle with stage 4 lung cancer.

He is survived by his brother Alex Hondros, sister in law Star Hondros, sisters Lucia Frazier, Mary Dresser, Katerina Pottinger, and Stella Hondros, stepmother Eleftheria Hondros and multiple nieces and nephews. Although gone too soon, Steve lived a full life. He will be sorely missed. May he rest in peace, and may his memory be everlasting.
