John's obituary

John H. Carter, born to the late Jim Carter and Katie Hannah Carter December 26,1930 in McCool Mississippi. He departed to his heavenly home on Friday February 11, 2022.

John started his Christian journey at Mt. Nebo Methodist Church. He relocated to Chicago, Illinois in 1953. He was united in holy matrimony to Hilda B. Miller. In union came daughter Phyllis Carter and their son Darryl Carter who preceded him in death.

John served in the United Stated Marine Corps and received an honorable discharge. He worked for a company called General Phelps as a contractor. Later he took this knowledge and started his own company known to the world as Raindance Roofing & Son where he excelled for 35+ years.

John always thought of others first and went out of his way to find “means to an end”.  He loved his family and friends and received enjoyment out of their gatherings but especially during holidays.

Some of his favorite things to do was listen to Jazz and Blues and dance. He also enjoyed cooking, gardening but he especially loved working. John was so full of life, fun and humor, butttt he could be bossy too. Haha. He opened up his home to almost anyone. If you didn’t mind living in a basement or attic you were always welcomed.

John was a loving, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and husband.

One son, Darryl Carter preceded him in death. Five brothers, Leonard Carter, Pervis Carter, Earlee Carter, James Lee Carter, and R.C Ritters whom all preceded him in death. Along with four sisters Louverta Triplett, Mae Bernice Gladney, Willie Mavis Lyons and Bobby Nell Carter-Mitchell.

John leaves to cherish one sister Jewel Grace Norton, of Weir, MS. Two brothers Royal Carter (Cathy) and James Robert Hannah all of Chicago, IL.

One daughter, Phyllis Carter-Knowles of Chicago, IL. Two grand children Paris Carter and Porsche Knowles and one great-grandson Zamir Knowles all of Chicago, IL. And a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws, relatives and friends.
