We miss you Jr. Your kindness to others and your community leadership is also greatly missed.  Your absence and has left us with a great void in the caring for our citizens.
I had the pleasure of working with Jr at Waldorf Carpets in the 80's. He was one of a kind and will never be forgotten. Very little went on in Charles County that he didn't know about or was involved in. Rest in peace my friend, until we meet again.
We observed Jr on many occasions helping out with Habitat, Christmas Connection, Project Graduation and many other community projects to help others. He was a great man who dedicated his money, time and spiritual life to help and understanding of others. God Bless you Junior!!

Junior was a man who inspired all that knew him. He encouraged us and our daughter Lisa to join Kiwanis, Working with him in Kiwanis taught us the joy and prviledge of serving our community. God bless you Junior. Your spirit will alway be a guiding light.
I first met Junior Harris in 2004 when I joined the Kiwanis Club of Charles County. It didn’t take long for me to see how committed and dedicated Junior was to the youth and the future of Charles County. He truly was “A man of the community” through his involvement in Kiwanis, the Chamber, the Jaycees, local businesses, etc. On August 29, 2020, our county lost a great friend to many and a legend. Rest in peace my friend.

A true gentleman who had a keen eye for entrepreneurism, volunteering, fashion and hard work. He will be sorely missed. -Craig Hickerson
My parents loved Junior and highly recommended him for our furniture needs. I also covered the All Stars basketball team when I worked at the local newspaper. I always respected him and looked up to him.
My deepest condolegences. I met John shortly after moving to La Plata in 1986 and got to know him better through his tireless activities and contributions to the Charles County Chamber of Commerce. His enthusiasm and postive outlook supporting our commuity will be missed. A true gentleman and community leader!
WHAT A GUY!! I've had the privilege of Junior's friendship since 1969, soon after BJ and I moved to Charles County. One of our first purchases was carpeting for our house and we met Junior at Ely's in Indian Head. In 1982 I recruited him to be the first black member of the Waldorf Kiwanis Club. You will be missed my friend. WHAT A GUY!!

To Chris: May God bless you and keep you. May he comfort you in your loss.
Diane Dade - I’ve known Mr Harris since the 80s. A wonderful man with a great love for life. He will be truly missed. My condolences to his family.

I first met Jr Harris about 20 years ago thru the United Way and my boss, Ron Cunningham. Then joining the Charles County Kiwanis Club at his and Ron’s encouragement... one of the clubs he started and held a strong commitment to seeing it thru some rough years in our efforts to remain an active club. He was committed and dedicated as a Kiwanian, inviting all the principals in Charles County Public Schools to breakfast at Bob Evans (over many years) and thru a partnership with Superintendent Jim Richmond, challenged the principals to start a Kiwanis student led club in their schools. At one time, there was an active Key Club at every high school, Builders at every middle school, and all but about ten elementary schools had K-kids.
Jr was always kind, respectful, courteous and had the best stories to share! The last few years saw the club struggling to support the student leadership clubs we sponsored and to raise the funds needed. To that end, the club volunteered to work Jaycees Bingo six times during the year to support the school clubs and other community efforts. Jr and I were assigned the easy task of selling the “punches” for the Bingo game packets and the special game cards. He was non-stop in his story telling, but always asking for my husband and family. As he sold the specials, he would chat with just about everyone and many times people just had to give him a hug!
Jr was one of the kindest people I ever met. I feel privileged to have known him in a small way, but Jr would always make you feel like he was waiting just to see you. I am grateful I had the chance to see him a few months ago and give him what turned out to be a last hug. Rest In Peace Jr... say hi to Ron! ❤️
I met Junior in the ‘80’s through the Waldorf Jaycees where he was a member; he shared joy in knowing I became their first female president. His membership and belief in the organization no doubt paved the way to have the first first black president of the organization. He gave so much to Charles County and asked for nothing in return. I will miss him greatly. He was a true community builder.
I spent many evenings in Junior's company at charity events and also in connection with EDD. He was a true gentleman and a humble man of service.
Junior recruited me into Kiwanis service some years ago. Like others have said, his commitment to youth and community service cannot be overstated. Our County and Region will feel his loss, and yet we have been enriched by his contributions. I look forward to sharing in a life celebration when appropriate! I extend to all who have been directly affected by his passing my heartfelt condolences and a prayer for God’s peace to touch their hearts.
You couldn't be involved in community service in Charles County without crossing paths with Junior! What I will remember most of all is that incredible smile, which was available to everyone he met :) And, of course, his desire to help and encourage others. To his family and close friends, I offer my sincere prayers through this difficult time.
A beautiful tribute to a beautiful man. Junior's kind and gentle spirit touched so many; he was a valued member of the community. My condolences to all of Junior's family and loved ones. Your loss is enormous.
My deepest condolences to Juniors family, he was a very unique man. I was blessed to get to know Junior thru many different ways but no matter what the setting he was always looking for ways to help others. He truly was a well known figure in Charles County and it seemed he was loved and respected by all. We could all follow in his foot steps and reach out to help our fellow man or woman. May he Rest In Peach.
Junior was a very special friend, always a gentleman who gave his all and brought the best out of everyone he had the opportunity to meet. When I was around Junior I know “I had been touched by an angel”
