John's obituary

John Adam Harrah passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack on May 16, 2025. He was 59 years old. He is survived by his children—Johnny, Kody, Savannah, and Winston; granddaughter, Skyler; and brother, Tony.

Though most know John as the son of William (Bill) Harrah, founder of Harrah’s Hotel and Casinos, those who truly knew and loved him know he was far more than his last name. He was a man of many tastes, talents, and passion projects who wore many hats throughout his life—entrepreneur, off-road racer, mechanic, sailor, horseman, hockey player, chef, traveler, musician. A kid at heart with an adventurous soul, he embraced life fully and on his own terms. Authentic, albeit unfiltered, and so deeply loved.

More than anything, John was a devoted father, grandfather, and friend—nothing came before those he loved. Whether hosting holidays, slumber-partying with his granddaughter Skyler, or getting annihilated by his kids at Rock Band, his happiest moments were those spent in a full home.

John’s family and friends will miss him deeply, carrying with them the silly, spontaneous, stubborn spirit that defined him. His legacy is not just in name, but in the stories, laughter, and love he leaves behind.
