John was a Cookie Monster.   Didn’t matter what kind, he ate 'em all.   I knew to bring extra when John was on the roster for an event.   He really enjoyed volunteering at the Civic and had just stepped up to Pitt Master.  One thing I will remember is the one armed hug he gave me last time we worked together.   I will miss him.
John was always the first one to sign in at the Civic and put his name in for the pit.  I told him when Travis Tritt was in town  I was going to do the pit that night.  He said I was going to have to beat him there that night.   I told him I was going to sleep in the parking lot and I would be the first one there,  He just laughed and walked away.  Caitlyn ended up putting us both in the pit,   John on the left and Me on the right.  We both won that night.

One of the many fun shows I worked with John, he truly loved  his music. The best was when he was  determined to work the PIT at the Travis Tritt Show, we were all pulling for him and he got it. He was beaming. Not seeing his Green Machine in the parking lot will be sad and not seeing him in Section A at Goodyear… another sad moment. I’m sending my thoughts  and prayers to his family and friends during this difficult time.  He will be missed, rest easy dear friend and rock on 🎵🎶❤️

My name is Robin Rice and I remember when I introduced myself to him head me feel like he'd known me , he said to me once that I  looked better in the white shirt instead of the burgundy polo! That made me laugh ( this guy, I've been wearing ever since) God bless the family

RIP John, as you rest in the arms, of our Savior, I send prayers and condolences to your family and friends. Warmly, Sharon Miller Mendoza

As Civic Theater volunteers, we were always happy to pull into the parking lot and see that bright green car, knowing it meant we would be working with John. He was such a fun, friendly guy and we enjoyed talking with him, especially about classic rock and concerts we had been to “back in the day.”  We are so sorry for your family’s loss. John will be missed by many.

John and I  grew up  a few streets  apart. Went all through  school  together  also. I'm  so sorry for your loss.  Cindy Schmitz  King.
John was an absolute pleasure to work with and the best volunteer! A weekly "one of the regulars" we know we would see at any rock show. BUT also he loved jumping in when needed and helping in the office. He is already greatly missed and has left an ever-lasting impression on all our hearts. He definitely was the man, the myth, the legend John Melvin. Please feel free to reach out to me privately so I may keep all the volunteers informed on any updates. I would also love an address to send more condolences. Feel free to reach me at volunteer@akroncivic.com. Sending so much love and light to his family. <3 - Autumn Lombardi Volunteer Coordinator at The Civic Theatre

Volunteer Dinner — with John
It was always a joy to work with John at the Civic and Goodyear theaters. He was kind, caring, funny, easygoing, and very cool. I had a lot of great talks with him about music. He loved working the pit at Civic, and aisle A at Goodyear. When I propped the doors for volunteers today, I was immediately stuck by the fact that i wouldnt see his green car pulling up, his smiling face walking across the street saying "A's in the house!" I'm so glad I got the chance to work with him these past 4+ years, and I will miss him very much. Condolences to all.

John would get his water from me at Goodyear theater before every show and always threw a tip in the tip jar - every single time! And I would always say you don’t have to do that , and he would always say back “I’ve got to start these people up. You deserve it” with a twinkle in his eye. He made me smile EVERY single time. He always had an act of kindness and such a positivity about him. Such a glow to him. I will never forget him and my condolences to the family.
