John Edwin Gustafson, 86, of Decatur, Michigan passed away on Saturday May 9, 2020 in his caregiver's home in Dowagiac, Michigan.  John was born on July 10, 1933 in Bottineau, North Dakota to the late John and Yrsa (Neilson) Gustafson. His family later relocated to Decatur, Michigan where he lived the rest of his life.  John was a jack of all trades and loved to build race cars.  When he wasn't working during his 40+ year career at the Watervliet Paper Mill, he was in the garage building, welding, or taking something apart.  After retirement he loved going to the casino and buying and selling goods at the local flea market.  He was a big fan of Westerns and dogs.  In 1955 he married the former Shirley Daisy in Decatur, Michigan and together they had one son, Steve.  He enjoyed spending time with his granddaughter, Ashlee, and with his great-granchildren.

John is survive by his son Steve (Theresa) Gustafson of Copperton, Utah, his granddaughter Ashlee (Jason) Stull of Louisville, Kentucky, great grandchildren, Dale Personette, and Joanna & Jillian Alm, sister, Adele and a host of nieces and nephews. John is also survived by his good friends Sandy and Dale Bruens who helped care for him in the last three years of his life. John was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Shirley, his sister-in-law Zella, two sisters, Marilyn and Ida, and his brother Loren.  In accordance with John's wishes he was cremated and there was no service.  His final resting place will be in his granddaughter's home.
