John's obituary

John "Johnnie” Gillespie, 73, of Edmond, OK, passed away on July 11, 2022 after a battle with advanced Parkinson’s Disease and CLL.

John was born on August 27, 1948, to Walter and Mildred Uphaus Gillespie in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was the second child of eight, the first son.

In the 70s, he met Darlene (VanCamp), going on to have 2 children, Emily Gillespie Burke (Kyle), and AnnE, grandfather to Easton and Peyton Burke. He remarried in late 90s to Christi (Watt), and was stepfather to Brandon (Kenzie), Nicole Nabors (Ryan), and Danielle White (Marshall). 

John was passionate about music, books, games, and food, and could often be found in his “music room”. 

John was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Mildred, and sister Angela Gillespie Floyd. 

John is survived by second spouse Christi (née Watt), daughters Emily Gillespie Burke, and AnnE, stepchildren Brandon, Nicole, and Danielle; siblings Peggy (Jerry) Hilleary, Jane (John) Pennington, Kay (Paul) Clark, Mark (Carolyn), Rob (Shelly) and Jimmy (Sharon) Gillespie, and grandchildren Easton and Peyton Burke. 

 The family requests that in lieu of flowers/cards, a donation can be made in his memory to heart.org for the American Heart Association. 

Celebration of Life was held on his birthday, August 27, 2022, at the Vineyard in Cincinnati, Ohio. 

He is interred in Arlington Cemetery, near his parents.
