John's obituary
John Gerard Johnson
November 1, 1969 – January 30, 2026
John Gerard Johnson, a man known for his gentle spirit and expansive heart, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes in his home in Blue Ridge, Georgia on January 30, 2026. Born on All Saints Day, November 1, 1969, John’s life was defined by a quiet strength and a profound love for those he held dear.
John was a "big guy with a big heart" who lived with a rare sense of humility. He was happy with the little he had and was a truly devoted brother to Cary, often focusing on her needs above his own. John felt things very deeply; while he sometimes struggled with the intensity of his emotions, that same sensitivity allowed him to love his family and friends with incredible strength.
A man of many talents, John worked as an HVAC technician and served as the groundskeeper at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Blue Ridge. He was a dreamer and a gifted creator who loved woodworking; he possessed the unique ability to see something and build it from scratch. His curiosity was boundless—he loved learning and frequently called his sister to dive into complex discussions about everything from complex numbers to the mysteries of space travel. As a teenager, John was also a state-ranked swimmer, showcasing his dedication and athletic spirit.
John found great peace in nature. He was an avid gardener and dabbled in raising pheasants, ducks, and chickens. His kindness was often shown through quiet, meaningful actions, like the time he spent an entire day planting flower bulbs for a friend just to bring them joy.
John’s faith was a cornerstone of his life. He loved the Lord deeply, and his family takes comfort in knowing he is now resting in eternal peace, reunited with his parents.
John was predeceased by his beloved parents, Lorraine Grace McNichols Johnson and George John Johnson. He is survived by his sister, Cary Elizabeth Blackburn, and her husband, David, neices, Kaitlyn and Rachel Blackburn, and nephew, Jonathan Blackburn.
