John's obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of John George Richardson on May 27, 2025, a man of quiet strength, dry English humor, and a generous heart. Born on November 7, 1951 in Liverpool, England, to parents Jack and Margaret. He also spent much of his early youth in the loving care of his grandparents John and Eileen.
He lived much of his life prioritizing conversations with family, giving extra kindness to small children and dogs, and being led by a strong sense of justice that guided him to always stand up for what is right, showcasing his version of the essence of an English gentleman.
John was a proud alumnus of Morris Hills High School, Rockaway, NJ, graduating in the class of 1969. He was a strong believer in the doors education could open for a person and he continued learning and taking college level courses throughout his life. He was a Vietnam era veteran of the United States Navy where he worked as an aviation ground support technician. He worked in project management and software development, as a consultant, as a manager with James Alexander Corporation, and as Vice President for Dataform Software. He holds a United States patent for a field kit for detecting ciguatoxin contamination in fish.
His tastes were simple and fixed—relishing in extra crispy “drop and shatter” bacon and burnt toast. He was a fan of George Thorogood, the Dropkick Murphys, and Warren Zevon (particularly “Mr. Bad Example”) finding solace and encouragement in the Liverpool Football Club theme song “You’ll Never Walk Alone” of which team he was a fervent supporter. He spent many an afternoon at the dog park with Jack, his trusty and much loved canine companion, and his dear friends there wherein he found a warm, welcoming community in his final years.
He enjoyed his favourite spots, The Quiet Man, Missy's, and The Walpack Inn. John championed social causes like the ASPCA, ACLU, and the Democratic Party, imbued with a determination to make a difference.
John was survived by his son John William Richardson (his spouse, Heather), and daughter Anne Vitale Richardson. Granddaughters Eithne Richardson, Adeline Vitale, and Grace Vitale and grandsons Noah McKone, Logan Richardson, and Dean Vitale, his sister Elaine Weathers and her spouse Brian Weathers, his loving niece Faith Weathers and nephew Matthew Weathers, his aunt Carol McKnight, widow of his uncle George. The light of his life was his family including his two children and six grandchildren of whom he was extremely proud.
His valuable lessons, immense love for his family, and his unwavering dedication to his beliefs shape the legacy he leaves behind—a legacy of determination and generosity. He will be profoundly missed by those who were touched by his compassionate (and when the situation warranted) fiery spirit.
