It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Mr. John L Gabel, age 86 on December 17, 2024. Born on September 3, 1938, he was married to the late Lorraine A Ross Gabel who passed April 8, 2024. He was a resident of the Milton Nursing Home and Rehab Center since last December one year ago. John worked as a diesel mechanic at Motor Truck and Eck's Garage all of his life, including after retirement he was always working on something in his shop. John had a love of country music, especially watching Hee Haw and other country and western shows every Saturday night with lots of country music. He enjoyed playing his guitar, violin and banjo, all by ear with friends and even with son Leroy.  Riding motorcycles was also something he loved. John and Lorraine would take weekend trips on his motorcycles for entertainment and fun. 

Surviving are 3 daughters and 2 sons, John Gabel Jr, and his wife Anna of Tennessee,  Annette Holba and husband Danny of New Hampshire, Leroy Gabel and wife Barbara from Lewisburg PA,  Magdaline Gabel Schreck and husband Steven of Florida, and Joyce Gabel Salizzoni and  Michael of Ohio. 

John had 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. 

John Shaw funeral home of Lewisburg will provide a short service on Saturday December 21, 2024. Visitation will be from 9:30 - 10AM , with the service starting at 10:00 AM and interment will be in Newport Cemetary following the service located at 1125 Middle Ridge Rd Newport Pa. 17074.
