Friends,

It is with a very heavy heart that I share the news that John JR Figurski passed away on October 26th from heart related complications.

He had been transferred to a Hospital in Portland and was surrounded by his son, Cody, and daughter, Casey and her fiancée; Eric. Laurie Gordon was able to speak to him via speaker phone towards the end and expressed how much his many Central Oregon friends loved and will miss him. 

 JR was instrumental in leading many adventures through the meetup group as the Head Pirate. His infectious smile and sense of playfulness will be fondly remembered. He led many groups in kayaking, river floats on the Deschutes, Munch and Music dancing, mini golf at Eagle Crest, Bend Elks games, Hump Day Happy hours, Billiards nights, and so many more. 

He has been a great close friend to folks in and out of the meetup group ; always willing to lend a hand, and volunteer to assist whatever project was occurring.

His colorful flamingo shirts will be missed, on the river and elsewhere. 

 There are many details still to be sorted with the family but we will definitely have a group Celebration of Life for JR in the coming weeks (Nov 21st) . Stay tuned for further details, likely next week.
