Ed's obituary

John Edward McKee, 72, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2024 in Lovelady, Texas.

Born on November 26, 1951 in Plymouth, Indiana, Ed was the beloved son of Lawrence and Ethel McKee. He graduated from Argos Highschool in 1970 and proudly went on to earn a degree in Geophysics with honors from Purdue University.

After graduation, Ed left Indiana for Texas in pursuit of a career at Mobil gas. This opportunity afforded him the luxury of traveling the world for work- Indonesia, Norway, Africa, Dubai, Spain and the like. During this time, he met his first wife Candace Bruman, and together they had his children James Patrick McKee and Hannah McKee. After a nearly 40 year career in oil and gas, Ed retired to the beloved property that he shared with his wife Elizabeth Thacker McKee in Lovelady, Texas.

Ed had the utmost admiration for nature. In young adulthood, he spent weekends hunting, fishing and camping with his family. He was an avid bird watcher, Cajun food connoisseur and part time comedian (or so he thought).

Ed’s kindness, wit, humor and gentle spirit will be deeply missed and forever remembered by those who knew him.

Ed is survived by his wife Elizabeth Thacker Hanson McKee; his children James Patrick McKee and wife Julyanne McKee, and Hannah McKee; his stepchildren Jennifer McMahon, Jake Grolich, Ashley Hanson and Adrianne Hanson; his sister Marlyne DeLong and brother Larry McKee.

He is preceded in death by his parents Lawrence McKee and Ethel Keffaber McKee, his sister Linda Ridoux, and his stepdaughter Jacqueline Nick.

A private memorial service will be held in Lovelady, Texas. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the National Audubon Society or Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation.
