John's obituary
John Douglas Watson, lovingly known as “Uncle Duck” to his nieces and nephews, passed away on July 19, 2025, at the age of 62 — the same date his beloved mother, Mary Ethel Downing Watson, passed years earlier. He was born on January 31, 1963, to Orvil Hurst Watson of Pasadena, Texas, and Mary Ethel Downing Watson of Jackson, Mississippi. Doug was a cherished son, brother, and uncle. He was preceded in death by both of his parents.
Doug is survived by his sisters: Barbara Livingston and Beverly Hendricks, both of Center, Texas, and Pat Hilliard McDonald of Tenaha, Texas.
Known for his unforgettable laugh and big heart, Uncle Duck brought joy, humor, and warmth to everyone around him. He had a deep love of history and enjoyed sharing stories, trivia, and conversations that could last for hours. His presence at family gatherings brought comfort and light, and he was always ready with a joke, a memory, or a meaningful reflection.
Uncle Duck will be remembered for his kindness, his curiosity, and the love he gave so freely. His laughter will live on in our hearts. We'll think of you every time we watch the movie, Platoon.
