Mike was born in Fort Oglethorpe Georgia, in 1945. He had a love of music from a young age and played in the school band, which eventually earned him a scholarship to attend Middle Tennessee State University after high school. Shortly after college, he enlisted in the United States Marines at the height of the Vietnam war. He proudly served our country from April 66’- February 72’. Following his time in Vietnam, he was appointed as a drill instructor and earned a Purple Heart, along with multiple other service awards. Despite the heartaches and tragedy, he witnessed in his time in the Marine Corps, Mike was always incredibly proud to have been of service to his country.
Following his return from Vietnam, Mike worked as a Union Carpenter. His passion for woodworking continued long after his career change in 1991 and you can find many of his hand-made items in his home today.
Mike’s military service equipped him with the ability to understand the struggles of others and he utilized these skills to counsel through the State of Georgia for nearly 10 years.
On June 6, 1992, he wed Gina Dorsett in their Acworth, GA home. Together they raised her two daughters, Michelle and Nicole, both of whom he loved dearly.
Throughout his life, Mike gave back to his community and stayed connected to his brotherhoods as a Shriner, a Mason, and as a lifelong member of the Vietnam Veterans of America.
Today, we can picture Mike riding his dream Harley Davidson motorcycle through the pearly gates where he is greeted by his horse step, and all the other animals he has loved in his lifetime.
