John's obituary
With deepest sorrow, we announce the passing of John Diamond this past Father's Day on June 15, 2025. Born on March 24, 1966, John's 59 years were filled with passion, creativity, and love for his family and interests. A programmer, video game creator, avid fisher, RC racer, and former member of a heavy metal band, John was a jack-of-all-trades.
John is survived by his beloved wife, Mina Diamond, whom he married in 2016. They met at Black Ankle Vineyards in Mount Airy and it was love at first sight. John would gush about Mina to his video gaming community and the two became inseparable, never spending a day apart and even going to work together. They were best friends and soulmates. They even shared the same birthday. Their beautiful life together included raising their three daughters Elizabeth, Jennifer, and Victoria McFadden, each of whom brought immense joy and pride to John. His loss will also be deeply felt by his father Gary Diamond, mother Carol Diamond, sister Laura Diamond, and his nephew Luke Watkins.
After graduating high school in Bel Air, Maryland in 1984, John went on to study Electrical Engineering at Loyola College and Computer Science at Towson State University, displaying an early talent for problem-solving and software development. His professional journey led him to the FEMA National Emergency Training Center, where he began working in 2018 as a team manager.
John’s rich life was accentuated by his varied tastes and hobbies. John embraced Mina’s Korean culture, regularly helping his wife make kimchi. He had an insatiable appetite for chili, kimchi fried rice, kimchi stew, green curry, and tonkatsu. His favorite music, from bands like Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, AC/DC, Rush, Pink Floyd, and Led Zeppelin, filled the family home every Friday evening when he would sing karaoke with Mina. His nextdoor neighbor fondly remembers his house walls vibrating with the sounds of John and Mina's weekly music and wine festival.
An avid television and film enthusiast, his favorites included Alien, The Thing, and Godzilla. John was an ardent supporter of the Baltimore Ravens, Baltimore Orioles, and Washington Capitals, and enjoyed playing his self-created game Alien Arena and Doom during his downtime. He spent his weekends 3D printing self-designed fishing lures, boating, and RC racing – hobbies that combined his technical skills with his creative side.
John loved walking by the river with his family. He also loved to vacation, with Deep Creek, Hawaii, Playa del Carmen, and Bahamas being his top choices. Locally, his favorite spots were wineries, where he would often be found savoring a good glass of wine. His favorite color was the calming and serene shade of blue, which was also the same shade as his eyes.
John’s passions, his love for his family, and dedication to his work echo in the hearts of those who knew him. He will forever be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, son, brother, uncle, and a loyal friend.
