Bryan's obituary
John "Bryan" DeRemer, 53, of North Charleston, SC, passed away on October 12, 2024 at the Medical University of South Carolina. He is survived by his only child, daughter Hannah Catherine DeRemer of Charleston, SC, his mother Cathleen DeRemer of Oxnard, California, his 3 siblings, brother Matthew DeRemer of Summerville, SC, sister Melisande Kinser of Oxnard, California, brother Christopher DeRemer of North Charleston, stepson Michael Hettrick of Goodell, Iowa, and dogs Lowcountry and Banx DeRemer.
Bryan was born on March 15th, 1971 to Cathleen and Raleigh DeRemer in Ventura, California. Growing up he was an avid cub and boy scout and played baseball and football while in middle and high school. Dad always told hilarious stories about him and his siblings about their growing up together. After graduating from Hueneme High School in Oxnard, he worked with his father and brother at his father's honing business, where he learned the art of machinery. He went on to join the U.S. Navy as a Machinery Repairman for 3 years which took him across the country from California to South Carolina. While in the Navy, Bryan worked on the USS Santa Barbara AE-28 in the Mediterranean for a time. In 1996, he left the Navy, returned to being a Machinist for a few years and then started his career in IT, working his way up to a Senior Systems Engineer at MUSC. This is where he started his family and had his only child Hannah Catherine DeRemer. He enjoyed everything to do with the outdoors and being active; he participated in many marathons with his friends and went camping throughout South Carolina with his family regularly. Music was a huge passion in Bryan's life, some of his favorite artists being: Bruce Hornsby, Bryan Adams, Phil Collins, and Barry Manilow (amongst millions others). He was a beautiful father and step-father and went out of his way to leave a healthy impact on all of the children in his life. We were so lucky to have him as a part of our lives.
Bryan was a bright light in this world. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned. Anyone who knew Bryan knew that he was the most loving father, brother, child, grandpa, uncle and friend anyone could ask for. Bryan was predeceased by his stepson, Nicholas Hettrick and his father, Raleigh DeRemer and his two dogs Murphy and Nellie DeRemer.
As his daughter, Hannah, writing my father's obituary, I would like to offer these resources on my Dad's behalf. He always wanted to help those who were struggling and although he struggled himself, he would never want anyone else he loved or met in his life to feel alone.

My Daddy and I's song- "Leaving on a Jet Plane" by John Denver
"Oh, kiss me and smile for me
Tell me that you'll wait for me
Hold me like you'll never let me go
'Cause I'm leavin' on a jet plane
Don't know when I'll be back again
Oh babe, I hate to go"
I'll miss you for the rest of my life Dad. Thank you for everything.
