John "Ricky"'s obituary
Born April 6, 1957 in Jackson, Tennessee, he was the son of Ernestine Stegall Day and the late John Richard Day, Sr. Ricky attended Elliston Baptist Academy where he excelled in sports and was named “Most Athletic” by his peers. He loved the outdoors and to hunt and fish on the Tennessee River - just as his late father enjoyed for many years. He was passionate about Tennessee football and loved to entertain with game day snacks, drinks and a great laugh. He was the ultimate storyteller and unbeknownst to most, a great singer. Ricky never met a stranger and he could make anyone love him. He loved his family with all his heart and he cherished all of them. He worked as a respected and successful salesman for Farmer Brothers Coffee Company and most recently, for Community Coffee Company.
He is survived by his wife, Diane Devoto Day; daughter, Rachel Day DeLaRosa (David) of Murfreesboro, TN; son, John Richard Day, III (Lindsay) of Orlando, FL; stepdaughter, Alissa Guasco Abercrombie (Scott) of Collierville, TN; stepdaughter, Kathryn Guasco Cartwright (Matt) of Knoxville, TN and stepson David Guasco of Memphis, TN; grandchildren Taylor Gingrow, John Thomas Gingrow, Andrew DeLaRosa, Jacob Day, Ella Day, Jack Abercrombie, Julianne Abercrombie and Charlotte Cartwright. He is also survived by siblings Traci Day Wallis (Butch), Susan Lea Day, Robert E. Day (Margaret), Amy Day Smith (Lane) and his mother, Ernestine Stegall Day. He also has eight nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, John Richard Day, Sr.
A memorial service and celebration of his “bigger than life” personality will be held at Harvest Church on Saturday September 7, 2019, at 3 pm in the chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Ricky’s honor to the following charities: St. Jude Hospital, the American Diabetes Association or the American Stroke Foundation.
