John Rutledge Chapin died peacefully in home hospice in Summerville, South Carolina, on August 27, 2025. In testament to a deep bond, he was preceded in death by just one day by his wife of 40 years, Toni.
John was born in Winchester, Massachusetts, on May 20, 1939, and he spent his childhood there, with regular summer vacations to his beloved Boothbay Harbor, Maine. He earned recognition as a standout high school athlete in baseball, …
