John's obituary
John H Brown Jr., "Downtown Brown" 73, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 8:07 pm July 7, 2020 with his daughter, Erica by his side at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon, Illinois. He was born February 23, 1947 in Birmingham, Alabama to the late John H. and Sarah (Owens) Brown Sr.
John is survived by his children, Erica Brown of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Kayleigh Elizabeth Brumley of Texico, Illinois, Jonathan Brown of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Darlena Brown of Nashville, Tennessee, Steve Brown of Nashville, Tennessee; adopted daughter Kelly Culverson of Ormond Beach, Florida; special friend, Barbara Thackrey; brother, Ray Brown; and several grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by four sisters including, Rebecca Brown Jones; and one brother.
A Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 12, 2020 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn, Illinois. A Graveside Service will begin at 2:00 PM. Interment will follow. Memorials may be made in John's honor to the Brown Family in care of Erica Brown.
