John's obituary
John A. Bragg, age 88, of O’Fallon, Missouri, passed away peacefully surrounded by his children on February 1, 2026. Born in La Plata, Missouri, John was a devoted educator, beloved father, grandfather, husband, and friend whose gentle soul, kindness, and humor touched all who knew him.
John dedicated 36 years to teaching, inspiring countless students in high school architectural drafting, Cooperative Occupational Education, and driver’s education, most notably at Fort Zumwalt North High School. His passion for teaching went far beyond the classroom. He encouraged curiosity, confidence, and a love of learning. Former students often remembered him for his thoughtful guidance and lighthearted wit, and many stayed in touch with him through the years. He earned his undergraduate degree in education and went on to complete a Master of Arts in Education, always committed to deepening his own learning as he helped others grow.
John’s family was his greatest joy, and he took pride in every one of them.
He is survived by his wife Carolyn Bragg.
Survived by his children:
• Susan Blum of Chicago, Illinois, and her son Grant Blum
• Doug Bragg of St. Louis, Missouri, his wife Stacy Bragg, and daughters Verite Quintana and Sophie Bragg. Verite and her husband Noah are the parents of John’s great granddaughter, Petra.
Beloved stepchildren and grandchildren:
• Sarah Burns and her daughters Bridget and Lena
• Jessica Koning, her husband Sander and daughter Elinor
John’s warmth and gentle spirit extended into his hobbies and community life. He loved playing the guitar and caring for his farm and pets. His compassion was evident in his volunteer work at a local food pantry and his enjoyment of animals. He found joy in music, in nature, and in the simple moments shared with family.
John was a teacher at heart until the end, a great father, and a family man whose caring presence will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
A visitation and celebration of John’s life will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Baue Funeral Home, 620 Jefferson Street, St. Charles, Missouri 63301.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Humane Society of Missouri.
