He graduated from Southeastern High School Ross County, Miami University, and Cuyahoga Community College and served in the US Air Force. He retired from the VA in 2009, having been the Officer in Charge of the Columbus Benefits Office after a 35-year Federal career. He received The VA Award For Valor and a Wings of Excellence Award given to 1% of federal Employees. He then worked as a County Veterans Service Officer, retiring from Clark County in 2022.

He held life memberships in the National Rifle Association, Reserve Officers Association, Ohio Rifle and Pistol Association, and AMVETS. He was a member of the American Legion, Air Force Association, Ohio Gun Collectors Association, and the Armor Association. In his younger days, he was a volunteer with the Liberty Township Fire Department in Londonderry, Ohio. He was active with the American Red Cross Disaster Services for over 30 years.

He leaves behind hundreds of books he read, hundreds of scale models most of which he never built, and a gun collection he did not shoot enough.

In Lieu of flowers, he requested that donations be made to either the Liberty Township Fire Department in Londonderry, Ohio or The Presbyterian Disaster Relief Fund.
