John's obituary

JOHN ALLEN BALE (AL), 68, passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 11, 2021, around 5:30 a.m. in Ottawa, Ontario at the Queensway Carleton Hospital with his loving wife, Wendy Carr, by his side.

Al is survived by his wife, Wendy Carr; his children, Lori Lynn Bale-Goheen (Cory), Alan Bale (Sherry), Joseph Bale, Tyler Bale (Melissa) and Cory Bale; his step daughter, Angela Odusanya (Adrian); and his 12 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 2 step grandchildren. He is predeceased by his parents, brothers and sisters.

Al worked most of his life as a truck driver for Rawlinson Moving and Storage in Mississauga. His work availed him the opportunity to travel across Canada and throughout the United States of America. He enjoyed being on the road, meeting new people and seeing new places. He was well liked by his customers and took pride in his work.

Al was often told that he missed his calling at being a comedian or a singer. He enjoyed making people laugh and singing his favourite rock and country songs.

He grew up in North Bay, Ontario where he hobbies like fishing, swimming and playing hockey for the North Bay Nuggets. He was the youngest child out of his parents eight children. He had a close relationship with his mother. He sadly lost his father when he was just 6 years old on Christmas Day.

When Al was 17 years old, he decided to follow in his brothers’ footsteps by enlisting in the army with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry.

Over the past few years Al's health had been deteriorating. He had many complications related to circulation issues which led to several surgeries. He was often in a lot of discomfort and pain. Al was steadfast in his choice that he did not want to be kept alive by machines and his request was honoured when his condition reached the need for that level of care. His family is at peace knowing that he is no longer suffering in pain.

Al will be remembered for his sense of humour, his love of food, listening to music and his love for Wendy and his family.

As per his wishes, there will not be a funeral service. His ashes will be laid to rest near his parents in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in North Bay.

The family requests that donations be made to the heart and stroke foundation in lieu of flowers.
