I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” — 2 Timothy 4:7
In Loving Memory of John Wellington Alger
John Wellington Alger, born April 6, 1955, in Jacksonville, Florida, passed away on November 3, 2025. John will forever be remembered for his kind heart, joyful spirit, and deep love of music.
He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Joy and Florence Alger. He is survived by his devoted sister, Lynette Alger Johnsen, and her husband, Jeffrey Karl Johnsen; their three children, Danielle Clarke (Matt), Matthew Johnsen, and Brittany Kennedy (Dylan). John was also a proud and loving great-uncle to Adeline, Lukas, James, and Grayson — his “little lights,” who brought him endless happiness.
John shared a lifelong bond with his cousins, Vivian Holmes, Pamela Carter, and Belinda McDonald, who were like sisters to him. He was also deeply loved by his many cousins, extended family members, and friends.
Anyone who met John loved him instantly. His warmth, humor, and compassion touched everyone’s life, and his nieces’ and nephew’s friends all affectionately called him “Uncle John.”
John’s love for music began at an early age, taking piano lessons from Shirley Bacon. Every recital ended with their special duet — Shirley on the organ and John on the piano — lovingly known as “Shirley Bacon and Friend.”
A proud graduate of Sandalwood High School, Class of 1973, John graduated from Florida Junior College. He was part of the FJC Chorale, performing throughout Europe, including Russia. He later attended Florida State University, majoring in Music, and performed in Cross and Sword as well as with the Jacksonville Symphony.
John’s laughter, kindness, and music will forever echo in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
