John's obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Robert Adamonis, beloved husband, son, father, and friend, who left us on September 16th, 2024. John was born in Philadelphia, PA, on July 10th, 1957, the cherished son of Ceslava (Tessie Gulaitis) and the late John Adamonis. He grew up surrounded by loving family that instilled in him the values of kindness, hard work, and perseverance.

John was a 1975 graduate of Northeast Catholic High School for Boys, where he earned high honors in academics and excelled in mathematics. He was a 1980 graduate of Pennsylvania State University with a BS in Accounting. While at Penn State, John formed strong friendships and further demonstrated his ingenuity and resourcefulness. His time at Penn State laid the foundation for a fulfilling career and rich experiences, showcasing his humor, wit, charm, and intelligence. John went on to earn his CPA license and began his career with Sickle, Riley and Company, an accounting firm in State College, PA. His excellence in tax preparation was evident by the fact that several loyal clients continued to have John prepare their tax returns through the 2023 tax season. He also worked for several years in the oil and gas industry, including as a Financial Executive at the Shaner Company in State College. John was the co-Owner and CFO of Mineral Springs Bottling, Co, Inc., located in Petersburg, PA, from 1987 until 2008 when the company was sold, and he continued as CFO of the company until 2009. Under his leadership, John grew the small manufacturing company into one of the largest and highly rated custom labeled bottled water companies in the U.S. He then worked as a financial consultant for several years, helping to improve the businesses of small and medium size companies. John finished his career as CFO for the Bessolo Design Group, Inc., an architectural design company in St. Petersburg, Florida, from 2014-2019, only forced to end his business career following a series of strokes. However, he was still able to continue to work as a tax and financial consultant for Bessolo on a part-time basis for two more years. A gifted businessman and entrepreneur, John’s innovative spirit and big-heartedness left a lasting impact on those around him. He frequently gave free tax and financial advice to his family and his many friends.

John is survived by his wife, Suzanne (Sue) Rich of St. Petersburg, FL, whom he married on January 15th, 2006, in St. Thomas, U.S.V.I.; his four children with his first wife, MaryBeth Auman – Bethany Adamonis of Chatham, NJ, Kelly Adamonis Mattson of Houston, TX , Carolyn (Lyndy) Adamonis of Los Angeles, CA, and John Paul (JP) Adamonis of Laurel, MD; and his two step-children, Chad Hunter of Mill Hall, PA, and Erin Dieter of Woolrich, PA.

John is also survived by his mother, Tessie Adamonis of Philadelphia, PA; his brother, Richard Adamonis, of West Milford, NJ; his grandchildren; and his aunts, uncle, niece, nephews, and cousins. The bond between the two brothers was strong, filled with mutual support and shared memories, including John’s “first love”, a 1972 red Mustang Mach1 convertible.

John will be remembered not only for his warmth and laughter but also for his remarkable intellect and the generosity he extended to friends and strangers alike. John Robert Adamonis may have departed from this world, but his spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him.

There will be no public Funeral or Memorial service.
