Joe's obituary
Joseph Kent Folmer May 19th 1943 – December 7th 2024
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joseph Kent Folmer. Joe passed away after a brief illness on December 7th 2024 at the age of 81.
Joe was born in Waukegan, Illinios on May 19th 1943 to parents Joseph and “Doreen”. In 1947 the family relocated to Queens Village New York.
Joe attended Brooklyn Technical High School and proudly served in the United States Navy for 4 years. In 1968 he followed his calling as a dedicated public servant and became a member of the New York City Police Department, retiring in 1983. After his retirement from law enforcement, he continued his professional journey at Tele Vue Optics, where he combined his precision and keen eye for detail with his lifelong passion for astronomy.
While living in Rockland, New York, Joe met the love of his life Barbara. They were married in 1991 and retired to Little Egg Harbor New Jersey in 2001. Throughout their 34 years of marriage, they enjoyed many hobbies together, especially their frequent visits to Atlantic City and 55 cruises along with various other trips and adventures. Joe was an avid bowler and was active in 2 bowling leagues right up until he was taken ill. He, also along with Barbara enjoyed singing with their community group, “The Sunrise Bay Singers”. Joe was a lifelong fisherman, bird watcher and all-around lover of nature. One of his finest attributes was his willingness to help his family, friends and neighbors in need, which he did countless times throughout his life. Joe’s vibrant spirit will be deeply cherished and dearly missed by all who knew him.
Joe is survived by his wife, Barbara; brother, Gary; children, Dani, Brian, and Heather; grandchildren, Caitlin, Shannon, Ainsley, Ethan, Jack, Frank, Tyler, and Cole; and great-granddaughter, Sloane. Joseph was preceded in death by his father, Joseph George, and mother, Elma "Doreen."
