Joel's obituary
Joel Waltenbaugh, Jr., departed this life on June 12, 2025. Born on January 25, 1951, he lived a vibrant and fulfilling life, expressing deep love and care for his family and friends. Known for his loyalty, gentle soul, and fervent protectiveness, Joel left an indelible impact on all who knew him.
Joel is survived by his loving wife, Katrina Waltenbaugh, his children, daughter Kara Knox (Joseph) and sons Adam Waltenbaugh (Kimberly) and Seth Waltenbaugh (Emily). He was a doting grandfather to Emma, Graham and Dean Waltenbaugh, and Camilla and Callum Knox. He also leaves behind a brother, Mark Waltenbaugh of Tarentum, PA and a sister, Jann Greene of Cottontown, TN

A Celebration of Life in honor of Joel will be held on June 19, 2025, at 10:00 PM in Madison.
Joel graduated from Madison High School, Madison, TN, in 1969. He pursued his higher education at Nashville State Community College, earning a degree in Computer Accounting and Business Data Processing in 1982. His professional journey began in 1972 at the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.
Outside of his professional achievements, Joel was extensively involved with the American Heart Association, lending his time and energy as a volunteer. His personal interests were wide and varied, displaying his love for simple pleasures and engaging storytelling. An avid fan of Lois L’Amour's books and Simon and Garfunkel's music, he also enjoyed old western TV shows and movies, particularly 'Quigley Down Under.'
In his leisure time, Joel was found playing backgammon or solitaire, watching performances of Les Miserables, or enjoying golfing as both a recreational activity and form of exercise. He cherished walking and spending time outdoors, reflecting his love for nature and tranquility. His favorite vacation spots were Cades Cove and the Smokies, and the Gulf of Mexico side of Florida.
Joel held a special affection for hot dogs and baked beans, and his favorite drinks were iced tea and Coca Cola. His favorite sports teams were the Tennessee Titans and the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Guided by a compassionate heart, Joel supported causes close to his heart like Home Street Home Ministries and Hope Springs. He left behind a legacy of fierce love and protectiveness and taught valuable lessons about empathy, non-judgment, and kindness.
Joel's greatest accomplishment, in his own words, was being a greatly loved husband, father, brother and grandfather. His enduring legacy will serve as a testament to his character - a man deeply rooted in love, loyalty, and protectiveness. Joel will forever be remembered fondly and greatly missed by all who knew him.
