Joel Michael Ackerman was born in Charleston, SC on October 23, 1973 to Belinda Fort and Daryll Ackerman. Joel, was a passionate shrimp boat captain who cherished the ocean, anything with a motor in it, hunting, fishing and his family! He was a shrimp boat captain on several shrimp boats all on the east coast and loved his job! Joel was a loving and hard working father, son and Papa!

He was proceeded in death by his mother Belinda Fort, brother Patrick Ackerman, grandparents Milton & Nynetta Ackerman, uncle Randy Ackerman and aunt Melanie Ackerman. Survivors include his son, Brian Ackerman, daughters Blythe & Carrie Ackerman, step-daughter Shaz Babson, father Darryl Ackerman, brother Logan Fort and his grandchildren Skyler Morén, Bentley Pedersen, Teagan Babson, and Sullivan Babson.
