Joe's obituary
at his home in Blanco, Texas, after fighting a courageous battle with cancer.
Joe D. was born on November 2, 1938, in Blanco, Texas to Mildred Olivia (Heckel) and
Herman Joseph Riba. He attended school in Blanco and graduated from Blanco High School.
While attending school in Blanco he played football, was active in the FFA and worked at the local
grocery store, along with helping take care of the family farm. He also later worked as a Butcher,
a Rancher, a Nursing Home Administrator and then retired after many years as a Floor Manager
at Klepac Greenhouses. After retirement, he enjoyed keeping up with friends and visitors to Blanco,
while he bartended at the Blanco Bowling Alley. He was an active member at St. Ferdinand
Catholic Church and he was a praying man. He was also an avid Hunter, Farmer, Gardner and
Fisherman, and very talented in his meat processing skills, of which he enjoyed doing with his
family and friends. He loved watching many sports and he especially loved watching his Grandchildren
play them. He knew his cows by their birthdates, loved a good game of solitaire and he enjoyed visits
from his friends. He always said that his biggest blessing was his family, and he was the happiest in the
time spent with them.
Joe D. is preceded in death by his parents, Mildred Olivia and Herman Joseph Riba and his nephews,
Larry Haley and Lance Haley.
Joe D. is survived by his daughters, Lanae Banks and husband Craig (Spicewood, TX), Dana Wagner
and husband Darrel (Blanco, TX); son, Joe David Riba and wife Jennifer (Blanco, TX); grandchildren,
Kegan Banks (wife Melissa), Britton Wagner, Makenzie Dougherty (husband Rihl),
Jordon Wagner (wife Malyn), Hayden Riba and Carson Riba; great grandson, Keaton Wagner;
sister, Patsy Haley Lewis; nephew, James Haley (wife Shauna) and niece Janice DeLeo (husband Tom),
along with many friends and family.
The Rosary will be held on Monday, August 26th, 2019 at 6:30 p.m. at
St. Ferdinand Catholic Church in Blanco, Texas, with the Memorial Mass on
Tuesday, August 27th, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. also at St. Ferdinand Catholic Church.
The graveside service will follow immediately at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Twin Sisters.
Serving as Honorary Pallbearers are: Kegan Banks, Britton Wagner, Jordon Wagner,
Hayden Riba, Carson Riba, Rihl Dougherty and James Haley
