Joe's obituary

Joe Ray Malone left this earth on March 17, 2019, a tip of his cap to his Irish heritage. He was born on January 20, 1937 to Leonard and Emma Malone in Belton, South Carolina, the second son of ten children. Joe lived a life of adventure, being at the forefront of the computer industry, from his days in the Air Force in the 1950’s until the 2000’s. He spent time in Trinidad and
Greenland before coming back to the States, spending time in Louisiana, Texas and California before going to the former Yugoslavia, the Black Forest of Germany and Switzerland. After returning to California for a time, Joe went back to Germany, taking his wife and four daughters with him. He traveled the continent for work then the family settled in England for a few years. Eventually, he ended up in Michigan, where he lived the last few decades of his life.

Joe was the ultimate storyteller who loved to laugh! He charmed everyone he met. He loved his family and nature. He had a soft spot for animals with special needs including a blind duck and a toothless dog. He loved his Clemson Tigers and never found a sport that he wouldn't watch on television! Joe is survived by his wife, Lynnda Unruh Malone of Hartland, Michigan, daughters Angela Malone of Mineola, Texas, Tracy Lansley and her husband Mark of Torod, Norway, Dyana Ferris and her husband Russ of Temecula, California, and Mandy Looney and her husband Brian of Hartland, Michigan. Joe was the proud Grandfather of Harvey Lansley, Morgan Townsend, Zoe Townsend, Vera Lansley and Reuben Lansley. He is also survived by seven siblings and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Joe’s life will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2019 at the Gaelic League of Detroit, 2068 Michigan Ave, Detroit, starting at 6pm. Come down and share your memories of Joe!

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Dementia Society of America, the Michigan Humane Society or the Alzheimer’s Association.
