Joe's obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joe Welton Goocher (Pop), 79, on May 1, 2025. Joe was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and son whose life was marked by his love for his family and his passion for the outdoors.

Born on August 19, 1945, in Blakely, Georgia to Ed and Dorothy Goocher, Joe spent his childhood surrounded by his siblings Eliose, Charles, Bruce, Johnny and Brenda. He was a devoted husband to his wife of 59 years and a proud father of 4 children, each of whom he supported with unwavering love and guidance. His family was his greatest joy, and he found immeasurable pride in his role as a grandfather, sharing his wisdom and humor with his grandchildren.

Joe’s passions were as vast as his love for his family. As an avid hunter and fisherman, he could spend countless hours on the water with a pole in his hand or at the deer lease in a deer blind waiting for his next buck relishing every moment of peace and adventure the outdoors had to offer. He taught his children and grandchildren the importance of patience, respect for nature, and the joy of your first catch or first hunt. If you couldn’t catch him on the water or in a deer blind, he was hard at work whether it was his place of employment or riding around on his tractor fixing his land.

He is survived by his wife Linda and his children, Jimmy, Jody, Eric, and Erin. He leaves behind 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren as well as numerous extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Dorothy Goocher.

Joe will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who were fortunate enough to know him. His legacy of love, laughter and appreciation for the simple pleasures in life will continue to inspire all who carry his memory in their hearts.

Services will be held on June 1, 2025, at 2:00 in the afternoon at Bedias Spanish Seventh-Day Adventist Church located at 19699 Roy Hall Rd, Bedias, TX.
