Jocene's obituary
Jocene Elsie (Cumber) Doyle was born February 7, 1931 at Trinity Hospital in Jamestown, North Dakota; the daughter and firstborn of Victor Joseph and Florence (Elhard) Cumber. She was baptized as a baby and confirmed as a teenager . . . reaffirming her devotion to Christ by baptism as an adult. She was a participant in Mt. View Nazarene Chruch.
Jocene received her education at Pingree Elementary and High School in Pingree, North Dakota. She then went on to receive a diploma in nursing from St. Alexis School of Nursing in Bismarck, North Dakota, and a Bachelor of Nursing from the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington. She spent forty-five years in nursing from office to hospital nursing, finishing her career as a CCRN (intensive care nurse) doing what she loved most -- bedside nursing.
In September 1959 she married Donald Edward Doyle in Seattle, Washington, and had three children: Diane Marie, Kathleen Ann, and Brian Stephen. The family moved to Olympia in 1980, and to the home on Rocky Prairie in 1981. Don passed away on August 11, 1990, and was missed by Jocene until the day she died.
Jocene enjoyed reading, cooking and baking, board and card games, church activities, and entertaining company. She also enjoyed traveling in her young and healthy years. Jocene passed away at 93 years of age, peacefully at home on March 7, 2024. She is survived by her children Diane (Dan) Thom, Kathleen Falk, and Brian Doyle, as well as several beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren.
