Jocelyn's obituary

Jocelyn Maria Paulino was born on April 6, 1977 to the union of Pablo and Bettye Paulino in Detroit, Michigan and the 3 Musketeers were born.

She attended the Academy of the Sacred Heart from 1st through 12th grade where she graduated with honors. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. After college, she started Straight From the Heart Catering with her mom. Jocelyn took a 6-month sabbatical to attend Culinary School in her father’s hometown in the Dominican Republic. Her catering business served hundreds of happy clients who could taste the love in her food. She loved to tend to her organic garden, which much to her dismay, ended up feeding the neighborhood wildlife, who thought of her yard as their own personal diner. Jocelyn was a true foodie, collecting cookbooks, watching cooking shows, and trying new recipes.  For years, she coordinated Community Service events at Detroit Rescue Mission, Capuchin Kitchen, Vista Maria, Focus Hope, Gleaners, Forgotten Harvest and several smaller food pantries.

Jocelyn was like a “guidance counselor” to all of her friends being the “go to” person for advice on subjects from A to Z. An avid reader, it was nothing for Jocelyn to finish a book on the flight of one of her many international trips. She was the “Queen” of DIY projects and among her other talents, she created exquisite jewelry, beautiful floral arrangements, and was an experienced knitter.

At an early age, she followed in the footsteps of her father, Pablo, and began studying A Course in Miracles and Egyptian Mysticism under the spiritual leadership of Dr. Carolyne “Ezeese” Fuqua. In 2004, she was accepted into the Institute of Ancient Mysteries. For the past 20 years, she continued her spiritual path and life of service with Circles of Light Ministries. She spent many days at the retreat center in North Carolina as the Head Chef, teaching line dances at the annual conference in Las Vegas, and bringing fun and innovation to the spiritual studies. Jocelyn was an active member of The F.L.O.W.E.R.S., a spiritual women’s group. In 2022, Jocelyn had the great and distinguished honor of being a Horus Award winner for her long-time contributions to the global Circles of Light community.

She will be remembered for her infectious laugh and huge heart by everyone who knew her. She will be missed dearly.

Jocelyn was called home on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, and was reunited with her father Pablo Paulino who preceded her in death. Jocelyn leaves to cherish her memory: her beloved mother Bettye Paulino, Godmothers Verne Armstrong and Dr. Carolyne “Ezeese” Fuqua, aunts Josefina (Freddy) Sosa and Glenda Scroggins, a host of cousins, best friends Nia Reid-Allen and Leslie Clark, and countless extended family and friends.

Special Thanks: Dr. Carolyne “Ezeese” Fuqua, Catherine Freeman, Deirdre Renee Brown, Karen Juanita Johnson, Sosa Family, Detroit COLM, Circles of Light Ministries, MOMS, OM5 and all of our family and friends that have loved and supported us.
