If I remember correctly my cousin Joaquin lived with my family for a short while when I was about 7 years old. Later throughout my youth I remember him visiting us in Pico Rivera, California. He would love to chat with me and joke with me. Trying his best to speak English, I tried my best to speak Spanish. We understood each other. He also worked at the bakery that my father Alfredo worked at in East LA. Great memories of cousin Joaquin's great smile, quick sense of humor and his awesome mustache..

Grandpa, My world lit up when I saw you smile at me. No matter how long I was gone, your happiness to see me remained constant. Your head would raise ever so slightly, and you would say "Hola mi jenny - I lave you - I lave you - I lave you" then it graduated to "hola mi jenny - I lave you - I lave you - I lave you .... Donde esta el Conejo?" and I would laugh knowing that Shannon now would have the nickname "Conejo" forever. As I grew older, I admired your love of the land and wanted to be just like you with a menagerie of animals. We don't have goats yet, but maybe someday. I know you are still smiling down at Shannon and I and watching over our future little conejos. Te quiero mucho Grandpa Joaquin.
