Joanne's obituary
With heavy hearts, we share that Joanne Lynn DeMello (Phillips), age 76, of Nehalem, Oregon, passed away on May 3, 2025.
Joanne was born on February 3, 1949, in Portland, Oregon, to Loretta Paquette and David Phillips. She spent her early years in Portland and Seaside before living for a time in Washington, California, and Nevada. In 2019, she returned to the Oregon Coast where she spent the past five years in Nehalem with her husband, Henry.
Those who knew Joanne best remember her as compassionate, loving, and resilient. Throughout her life, she held many titles—but none more cherished than mother and grandmother. She poured her love into her family and shared her joy with everyone around her. In her final years, she worked at the Nehalem Valley Care Center, where she went above and beyond to care for others in her community.
Joanne is survived by her husband, Henry; her daughter, Dena; her son, Bruce; her sisters, Jean and Janice; and her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, Jack.
A celebration of life will be held on May 31 at 4:00 p.m in Wheeler, Oregon. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Oregon Hospice & Palliative Care Association, an organization that helps to ensure Oregonians have access to high quality hospice and palliative care. This mission reflects Joanne’s deep belief that everyone deserves compassionate care at the end of life
