Joanne Marie Cottrell, 79, was finally at peace on July 22, 2025 at McLaren Hospital Flint, Michigan.

Joanne was born in Detroit Michigan on February 14, 1946 to Ralph Proeitto and Josephine Proeitto.

Joanne was a younger sister to Carmella Proeitto, Catherine Retko (Walt) and an Aunt to Patrick Retko (Lindsey).

She was proceeded in death by her parents and oldest sister Carmella.

Survivors include Alexis McConahy (James), her only child. 6 Grandchildren, Ricky Shoaff III (Seiarra), Scott Shoaff, Gabrielle Shoaff, Abigail Shoaff (David), Devyn McConahy (Kelly) and Haylee McConahy (Michael). 6 Great grandchildren, Alayah, Amelia, Rilah, Meadow, Ricky IV, Gemma.

She was a graduate of Bishop Gallagher High School 1964 and Marygrove College 1968.

Joanne had a love for animals, sports and a passion for politics. Her true calling was teaching. She worked as a teacher both in Michigan at her alma mater Bishop Gallagher and San Gorgonio High School in California where she taught US History until her retirement.

Her wishes will be honored, and the spreading of her ashes will be in both places that gave her peace and solace, the ocean and the mountains.
